Bullion Depository

New Zealand Vault provides our clients two storage options; storing in our safe deposit box vault or in our bullion depository.

We provide a unique storage service within our Wellington bullion depository for clients with gold or silver bullion holdings. Unlike most bullion depositories, New Zealand Vault offers the additional security and control of storing your fully allocated and segregated bullion in a high-grade safe that sits within our bullion depository.

Each client’s bullion will be first packaged into a box, complete with your client ID, and secured with tamper evident tape. This box will then be deposited into a safe within the bullion depository by us, along with international accountancy firm, Grant Thornton. The safe will then be closed.

Our bullion depository service fees are based on a percentage value of the bullion stored and include insurance and the service of Grant Thornton acting on your behalf. For more information on our pricing please contact us.

This vault is fitted with world class systems and security protocols and is only opened when we are depositing or withdrawing bullion from a safe at the written request of a client. For more information on the bullion depository please contact us.

In just 4 easy steps you can open a storage account with us and our bullion depository will be ready to receive bullion:

Step 1.

Review and accept our Terms and Conditions.

Step 2.

Complete our secure online registration. Make a credit card payment of USD$1.00 to authorize your credit card through our secure online payment engine. The USD$1.00 payment will be refunded against your first quarter's invoice. Your account will then be open and available to receive bullion.

Step 3.

We then require a copy of each of the following forms of ID authorized as a true copy by a Notary. This needs to be received within 30 days of opening your account.

  1. One copy of photo ID (passport or gun license or driver's license); plus
  2. One form of secondary ID (any government or bank issued card or document that has your name and signature); plus
  3. Proof of your address (utility invoice, or bank document that has your address on it and is not more than 3 months old).

Step 4.

Post your authorized identification documents back to us at:

New Zealand Vault
PO Box 10206
Wellington 6143

We will also require you to confirm with us the amount of bullion to be stored so we are able to provide you with a quote for the storage.

How your bullion will be stored:

When your bullion arrives at New Zealand Vault it will be packaged in a box, complete with your client ID, and secured with tamper evident tape. This box will then be deposited into a safe within the bullion depository by a New Zealand Vault custodian and international accountancy firm, Grant Thornton. Grant Thornton will provide you with the following service:

  1. They will open the package when the bullion arrives at New Zealand Vault, and check that the bullion received matches what is on the delivery schedule.
  2. They will deposit the bullion into a box and secure it with tamper evident tape. The box will be segregated within the safe. The safe will then be closed.
  3. They will hold the code to the safe in their own safety deposit box.
  4. Finally, New Zealand Vault will email you the confirmation certificate, signed off by Grant Thornton confirming that the bullion has been safely deposited into the bullion depository.

The is no additional fee for the Grant Thornton service.

You can liquidate your bullion:

If you wish to sell a portion or all of your bullion, New Zealand Vault can also arrange for the liquidation of your bullion as long as it meets certain criteria. For more information on the liquidation process please contact us.

You are in control:

Each safe has 2 codes; one held by New Zealand Vault and 1 held by Grant Thornton. Both codes are required in order to open the safe where your bullion will be stored. New Zealand Vault cannot access your bullion without the code held by Grant Thornton and Grant Thornton cannot access it without the New Zealand Vault’s code.

Both New Zealand Vault and Grant Thornton will only act on your written instructions to remove the bullion. In order to remove any bullion and return it to you, your written request would also need to be validated by a Notary. As a result, you are in complete control as to who can access your bullion.
